If you think your blog is failing, it may be because you’re falling into one of these blogging traps. They always catch new bloggers out! I’ve been blogging for around 2 months now, and I’ve spoken to bloggers big and small. Every ‘successful’ blogger I’ve spoken to, no matter their niche, has a few things in common. Successful bloggers are hyper-focussed on their own content. They ignore the trends other bloggers are following and do their own thing. Their content is on point, so they stand out from the crowd. They analyse what their readers are reacting to and focus on creating more of the good stuff.
Hashtags are an art form. Using the right hashtags on Instagram is the most efficient way to create growth and engagement on your profile. Why? For posts to show up in search results, they need to be tagged with either hashtags or geotags. As more hashtags can be used than geotags, they are perfect for increasing your reach. Having your posts show up in the search results is the best way to reach a wider, potentially new audience.
Are you on Pinterest? I sure am. Before I started my blog, I read so many articles about how effective the right strategy on Pinterest could be for driving traffic to my blog. I was sceptical. I’d used Pinterest in the past to save inspiration for rooms and houses to build in The Sims and for tattoo ideas. I couldn’t believe that it would be a viable source of traffic to my website. Surely it was just for pictures? Well, I was so wrong. I always thought I was technologically up to date, but the Pinterest trend clearly overtook me. Turns out, Pinterest is more than just a place for collections of beautiful pictures. Pinterest is a mighty search engine. And the secret to getting on page one? Pinterest Group Boards.

I promise this has been for science. I don’t have very many Instagram followers as it is. I have around 300, at the moment. It’s not my main platform and I don’t really try to promote my blog on it. I follow a lot of bloggers, but I don’t actively try to drive traffic from my insta to my blog. It’s essentially my personal account. When I started to learn that you could actually buy followers… I was tempted. Maybe it’s a good way to get a running start? I knew it was wrong, shady, but I wanted to learn more.
